PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A 19-year-old Peoria man was sentenced Friday to seven-years in prison on a reduced murder charge for a fatal shooting almost two years ago at a South Peoria liquor store.

Prosecutors asked Judge Stephen A. Kouri to impose a longer sentence of 20-years for Jared R. Williams for the August 2023 shooting death of Mason R. Loy in the parking lot of Laramie Liquors.

Prosecutors said Williams pointed a gun at Loy, who wasn’t armed, and tried to run away. Williams shot Loy four times, with three of the bullets hitting Loy in the back, according to authorities.

A release said bullets also struck the liquor store’s windows, endangering all who were inside. The store was open for business at the time.
