CHARLESTON – The Wheeling Central Maroon Knights are right where they should be- if the Knights’ own assessment of themselves is anything to go off of.

Wheeling Central, ranked No. 1 in the WVSSAC Class AA state tournament, and indeed ranked No. 1 in Class AA for much of the season, will play for the Class AA state championship on Saturday against No. 2 Philip Barbour, the game set to kickoff in Charleston’s GoMart Ballpark 50 minutes after the Class A championship game’s conclusion. That game begins at 10 a.m.

“We’ve talked to the team all year- we’ve been talented, we started out as the preseason No. 1, and this is the spot we wanted to be in,” Wheeling Central head coach Todd Cover said. “Not to sound arrogant, but our attitude is that we expected to be here. Anything less would’ve be
