SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Pride Month, intended as a celebratory time for the LGBTQ community, has instead brought challenges for centers across Sacramento County.
Priya Kumar with Sacramento’s LGBT center said they are grappling with a shortfall ahead of their annual Pride festival .
The center first faced federal budget cuts, then sponsors withdrew more than $100,000 in support.
"The climate is very anti our community," Kumar said.
Kumar said they need the community’s help to fill the funding gaps.
The center is seeking more than 500 volunteers for the upcoming Pride Festival at Capitol Mall, which is expected to draw over 20,000 people.
"We spread them out in different shifts so you can come and volunteer one shift just for hours, or you can stay the whole day if you'd like," Kumar
