Every generation has said that about the one coming up behind them and every generation has proven itself in new ways. The way we work, lead and manage is evolving and a big part of that change is generational.

If you’re finding it harder to connect with younger staff — or harder to motivate them — it’s not because you’re a bad manager. It’s because you’re managing in a world that doesn’t look like the one you started in. And while it’s tempting to long for the old days (and even more tempting to complain about “kids these days”), the real work lies in adapting.

Management has changed. That’s not a crisis; it’s an invitation.
