NEWPORT — A Newport man has been arrested on homicide and kidnapping charges after deputies found a woman chained on private property and discovered a buried body during a Thursday welfare check.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they contacted a man at the end of the driveway who escorted them onto the property, where they found a woman chained and unable to leave. A deceased person was found nearby, Pend County Sheriff's Office officials said in a press release Friday.

Two men and a woman living on the property were detained. A search warrant was obtained, and the Washington State Patrol Forensics Team processed the scene. The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office was notified to determine the cause and manner of death.
