As some schools across New Orleans have been forced to dip into their savings to weather lingering impacts from an ongoing financial crisis , NOLA Public Schools will pay an additional $12.5 million to help close the gap. But the funds come with some caveats.
The Orleans Parish School Board voted unanimously on Thursday to distribute $10 million from its reserves to schools, as well as make available another $2.5 million for schools that can demonstrate an adverse financial impact from the fiscal crisis. Schools that receive money from the $2.5 million pot must repay the district within five years.
