The end of an era.
That’s about the only thing to say about the end of the Forsyth Junior Championship golf tournament. For the first time in the 72-year history of the tournament, there will be no winner this summer. It’s one of the longest running tournaments hosted by the City of Winston-Salem’s Recreation Department.
With not enough junior golfers signed up, Katie Thomas and Bobby Hege, who run the tournament through the recreation department, made the difficult decision.
“Unfortunately, we had to cancel the Forsyth Junior Championship for June 2 and 3 due to lack of (golfers),” Thomas said in an e-mail. “We hope to reschedule this tournament for later in the summer…”
That’s not likely to happen, and it’s unclear why the Forsyth Junior has barely had anybody sign up in recent years
