The opinion piece from Chris Mattei in support of striking RDX (Pratt & Whitney) workers left out an important nuance.

The insurance fund that Mattei referred to in his letter is another way of saying unemployment benefits.

The state of Connecticut should not get involved in a private employer/employee dispute by favoring one side or another by providing unemployment benefits to striking workers. If so, where would it end: paying any and all striking workers while they are walking a picket line? Hardly the intent of unemployment benefits.

Workers that go on strike have made a choice not to work.

If the staff at Mattei’s law firm decided to go on strike, would the owners of the firm think these workers should collect unemployment benefits while on strike?
