Hamilton public health has issued a drug alert after a recent spike in suspected overdoses.
Julie Prieto, director of epidemiology and wellness at public health, wrote in a communication update Wednesday that Hamilton paramedics responded to at least 39 calls for suspected drug poisonings between May 26 and June 2. That represents the largest number of calls for suspected overdoses in a week for the city since the last week of September 2023.
On the morning of June 2 alone, paramedics responded to seven calls for people suffering from suspected opioid overdoses, noted the report.
