CLEVELAND, Ohio — Midea is recalling about 1.7 million U and U+ series window air conditioning units due to a design issue that can cause mold to grow, posing a health risk to users, federal safety officials announced.

The recall, issued June 5 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, affects units sold in the U.S. between March 2020 and May 2024 under multiple brand names, including Midea, Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LG, Mr. Cool, Perfect Aire and Sea Breeze. Another 45,900 units sold in Canada are also impacted.
