Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has withdrawn from international duty with the Dominican Republic due to “small physical discomfort" that had been present towards the back end of last season.

Firpo had sat out the final day title win over Plymouth Argyle due to hamstring complaints but still travelled to the Caribbean after being called up by his country ahead of this summer’s Gold Cup campaign - the North and Central American equivalent of the European Championships.

The left-back had trained last week but a decision has been taken in conjunction with the national team's medical staff for him to withdraw from the squad. The extent of his setback is unknown, so it is unclear whether he could later make a return to the fold.
