Been pondering about identity. No, not identity politics. More like “What is our identity? Where does it come from? How does it affect our lives?”
The air traffic controllers who guide aircraft across the skies have on their radar screens the identity of all planes in their sector of control: Delta 1251, FedEx 298. Each plane sends a signal so there is no mistaking who they are.
The dictionary says our identity is the set of characteristics by which a person or thing is definitively recognizable or known. This is a fine definition, but thinking of identity in a deeper sense, our identity is the essence of who we are as a person; the sum of all those things that make us who we are.
But where does our identity come from? We are given our identity by others, but we also choose our identity
