James Tavernier is set to remain Rangers captain under Russell Martin - and will play a key role in the new manager’s summer revolution.
The 33-year-old, preparing for his 11th season at Ibrox, is still a “hugely important” player according to Martin despite being a target for the boo boys.
The new boss plans to tap into Tavernier ’s wisdom over the coming weeks to help him get a firm grip on where the last two years have gone wrong.
Then he plans to use his former team mate as a sounding board to finalise his summer masterplan and squad rebuild.
That includes trying to hold onto assets such as Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande.
But Martin has warned his old team mate he still has to earn the right to be on the park to wear the armband. Article continues below
