100 Years Ago, 1925: While hundreds of bathers stood by, a middle-aged woman had a narrow escape from drowning in the Chester Creek near Bridgewater on Friday night, and would probably have lost her life only for the timely arrival of Frank Price, Fifth and Pennell streets, who was swimming in the water some distance from where the woman went down. Price swam to where the woman disappeared and being a strong swimmer, towed the unconscious bather to the banks where first aid was rendered. She quickly recovered consciousness and was taken away by some friends who thanked the modest hero, who in the excitement failed to learn the woman’s identity.
