NEW ROCHELLE – New Rochelle Police Commissioner Robert Gazzola will be retiring at the end of the month, concluding a nearly 40-year career of service.
He has served as commissioner since July 1, 2021, but said he has accepted a new professional opportunity.
Gazzola joined the department in 1986 and rose through the ranks.
“Commissioner Gazzola has led the department with integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to community policing,” said City Manager Wilfredo Melendez. “Under his leadership, the department has advanced key public safety initiatives and strengthened relationships with residents.”
The manager said they are working on a transition “that will ensure continuity for the department, and they will announce further details in the coming weeks.”
