BURLINGTON, Ohio — Renovations on the former Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at Burlington, Ohio , are expected to be complete by the end of August, when it will reopen as a historic site and community center.
Established in 1849, Macedonia Missionary Baptist is Ohio’s first Black church and the only surviving antebellum Black church. The church was listed as one of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites in 2020.
The restoration project is a partnership of the:
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Board of Trustees
Foundation for Appalachian Ohio , which serves as the project’s fiscal agent
African American Community Fund , an FAO affiliate that serves as the project’s fundraising partner
