BOYNE FALLS, MI — Republican U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman is pushing the Trump administration to approve a long-term hydroelectric dam license for Boyne Mountain that would avoid requirements for public access to a Boyne River impoundment which the resort hopes to build new accommodations around.

In a May 22 letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Bergman asked for a status update on the dam’s re-licensing and expressed “concern” about any conditions “that would mandate expanded public access to private land.”

Boyne applied for a 30-to 50-year license renewal on its 250-kilowatt dam in 2020. The company has fought demands by the state and conservation groups for public access to the impoundment, a common feature that FERC typically requires as a recreational benefit at hydro
