Veterans Boulevard/Ninth Street East is a traffic mess in need of a solution — and soon.

The north-south thoroughfare that separates Fargo and West Fargo south of Interstate 94 has become one of the most — if not the most — congested roadways in North Dakota.

Traffic routinely backs up for a mile or more in both directions, and those backups occasionally disrupt traffic movement on I-94 as vehicles taking the off-ramps onto Veterans Boulevard/Ninth Street East can’t access the clogged roadway and back up along the interstate.

It’s dangerous and also frustrating for drivers.

So how did this relatively new thoroughfare on the west edge of the metro area get so congested so quickly? We have some theories:
