BAMBERG – A federal judge's order has halted the closure of the state's only Job Corps center and 99 other contractor-operated centers following the U.S. Department of Labor's decision to pause their operations by June 30.

Job Corps is a federally funded residential, career training and education program for low-income young adults ages 16 to 24.

Reuters has reported that a U.S. judge on Wednesday temporarily stopped the Trump administration from moving ahead with its efforts to eliminate the program.

Courtney Parella, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Labor, said in an email on Monday that the DOL had announced that it would be "pausing operations at all of our 99 contractor-operated Job Corps centers."
