GRAND HAVEN, MI - Jim Avery and his wife Karen have always wanted to open a space offering fresh, wild-caught fish.

The couple opened The Lucky Bucket at 38 Washington Ave. in downtown Grand Haven in May. They own two other local spots: The Pump House, a yogurt bar, and The Toasted Pickle, a sandwich joint.

After successfully expanding their two shops to the Grand Rapids area, they sought a new venture.

“We lived in Louisiana for a while and picked up a taste for catfish and shrimp and all kinds of seafood, and lived in Seattle near the famous fish market, so we really got an appreciation for fresh fish,” Avery said.

He told MLive that once he and his wife moved back to West Michigan, they could never understand why Grand Haven didn’t have a go-to fish spot.
