Rancho Mirage High School already won a CIF Southern Section championship in softball, with a win over Culver City on May 30. On Friday, the Rattlers faced the Centaurs again in the CIF regionals, and the result was another win, thanks to a pair of home runs by the Rattlers’ freshman sensation.
Jezell Espericueta hit a two-run shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning to give the Rattlers the early lead. She later hit a three-run home run over the right field fence to extend the Rancho Mirage lead that the Rattlers would never relinquish.
The 9-5 win over Culver City moves Rancho Mirage (21-10) to the CIF regional final, where they’ll play face Orcutt Academy at home at 2 p.m.
