Duluthian Robert W. Williams, a former valet to President Grover Cleveland who once sang with Madam Louise Homer, died at the Lighthouse for the Blind at 54. Williams was born in 1871 to a formerly enslaved mother. After losing his sight, he spent the last eight years of his life earning a living by weaving baskets.

Natural gas service to the Head of the Lakes has been delayed at least a year pending the completion of a Canadian pipeline, Northern Natural Gas Co. officials said at a federal power commission hearing.
