POUGHKEEPSIE – First responders from several agencies helped save a man who jumped from the Ulster County side of the Mid-Hudson Bridge around 2 p.m. Friday. A 911 dispatcher had alerted Lloyd Police to the presence of a man on the span who appeared to consider jumping 135 feet into the Hudson River below. As the officers were a short distance away, the man jumped.
Several people in the area of the bridge were able to spot the man in the river, floating south with the current.
While Lloyd Police were responding, the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department was launching its jet boat from its slip at Shadows Marina and began racing to the scene. The firefighters on Marine One located the man and pulled him onto the fireboat moments after launching.
