ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Police have identified a suspect in an abduction and attempted sexual assault that occurred early Thursday morning in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Alexandria.

Fairfax County detectives say Wuilver Mauricio Hernandez Garcia, 36, approached a woman who was walking home around 12:45 a.m. in the 3800 block of Roxbury Court. According to investigators, Hernandez Garcia followed the woman into a nearby wooded area, where he attacked her and attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman was able to fight him off, and the man ran away, police said. Officers searched the area extensively but did not find Hernandez Garcia. The woman was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries.
