Austin police are investigating a homicide that left one person dead in northeast Austin.

APD says that 911 was called at 10:53 p.m. Friday evening from the 9800 block of Halifax Drive. Police say the caller requested help and hung up.

911 attempted to call the number back, but no one answered.

Austin EMS arrived to the scene and located an individual with obvious trauma to their body. They requested APD backup and began life-saving measures.

APD arrived on scene and detained a second person, who is now considered a person of interest and is in police custody.

EMS was unable to save the life of the individual found with trauma to their body. That person is now dead; police have not identified them or the person of interest in custudy.
