Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe left Friday night’s game after being hit on the left elbow by a pitch, but he expects to be available Saturday.
Volpe suffered a contusion with swelling, pain, and joint stiffness. Initial X-rays and a CT scan were negative.
"I expect to be in there (Saturday),'' said Volpe after the Yankees’ 9-6 win over the rival Red Sox. "It's how I was brought up in the game. You want to be available for the team.''
Manager Aaron Boone was hopeful Volpe’s condition "is nothing that keeps him out for very long.''
Volpe could be a bench option for the rest of the weekend series. The Yankees are off Monday before starting a three-game set in Kansas City.
Volpe was replaced by Oswald Peraza in the fourth inning after being struck by an 89-mph, 2-2 changeup from Walker B
