Grand Forks County Sheriff Andy Schneider recently got a pay raise, recognizing his new duties associated with leading the Grand Forks County Correctional Center. The change brings additional staff under his purview and the new responsibility of overseeing a multi-million-dollar budget.

Originally, on May 20, the raise was $12,000 per year, moving his base pay from $142,120 to $154,121 – an increase of approximately 8%.

That raise simply wasn’t not enough, and here’s why:

The former head of the GFCCC, Bret Burkholder, was earning $153,372. As of the May 20 raise, Schneider was earning more than Burkholder was paid, but not much more – about $750.
