Driving across fields and uneven ground to fight fires requires a special kind of vehicle. Lower Mount Bethel Township ’s fire department just added a piece of equipment designed for that purpose.

The Lower Mount Bethel Township Sandt’s Eddy Fire Co. put its new Chevy 6500 Vengeant Apparatus Sandstorm brush truck into service this week.

Fire Chief George Russo said the department has already responded to 12 brush fires this spring, so the new truck is a welcome addition to the company’s equipment.

“There’s lots of fields and woods here in Lower Mount Bethel Township,” Russo said. “It’s back country type of firefighting.”
