An environmental analysis for the Port of Vancouver’s stormwater treatment project will require several steps to offset potential environmental impacts. The project includes installing an underground pretreatment system and an above-ground polishing system that, combined, will treat runoff from an estimated 268 acres of surface area.
The main goal of the project is to more efficiently remove diesel fuel and oil from stormwater runoff, as well as dissolved metals such as zinc and copper, according to a May 21 report.
A pretreatment system will treat runoff from about 35 acres at Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 before discharging to the Terminal 4 stormwater pond. The polishing system will be installed on a 3,200-square-foot concrete pad and treat runoff from the downstream section of the Termin
