ALEXANDRIA — Recent browsers on Facebook Marketplace may have noticed an unusual listing — an old railroad car.
But it isn't just any railroad car. It's part of the old Fireside Steak House, later renamed Weston Station.
The Fireside opened on Saturday, June 29, 1957, as Carl's Fireside Steak House, but the car wouldn't be a part of the restaurant until many years later.
Carl's was owned by Carl Hintzen, an Alexandria native who worked with the famed Toots Shor in New York for 10 years before he returned to Minnesota in 1951.
Hintzen started Carl's Restaurant in the Alexandria bus depot that same year, and sold it in 1956.
The original Fireside Steak House building was 50 by 35 feet and completely air conditioned, with seating for 70 people.
