A scary moment unfolded in Binghamton, N.Y., on Friday night as Mets No. 1 prospect Jett Williams was hit in the helmet by a fastball during a game against the Somerset Patriots.
Williams was leading off the bottom of the first inning when a 1-2 pitch (unofficially clocked at 98 mph) from Patriots right-hander Carlos Lagrange ran up and in, striking Williams near the left earflap of his batting helmet.
Williams immediately fell to the ground, clutching his head, before sitting up and receiving attention from the training staff. After a minute or so, he was able to walk off under his own power and was replaced by a pinch-runner. An immediate update on Williams’ condition wasn’t made available.
