A 'hotspot' for discarded needles near Glasgow's drug consumption room has been cleared following complaints from local residents.

Glasgow City Council has announced that a waste ground area in Calton has been cleaned up and a needle bin installed following reports that dozens of hazardous needles were found at the site.

It follows complaints from local residents living near the Thistle drug consumption facility that they were being forced to clean up paraphernalia and that the area had become a 'no-go' zone.

We previously told how needles could be seen in the bushes on the edge of Morrisons’ car park in the area, and a recycling point at Morrisons, which is off the Gallowgate, was previously removed due to the issues.
