NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A New Haven man has died after being hit by a vehicle on Dixwell Avenue early Saturday morning, according to police.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Dixwell Avenue around 3:45 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Responding officers found a 50-year-old New Haven man in the roadway with injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation determined that the victim was in a wheelchair traveling south on Dixwell Avenue from Charles Street in the southbound lane near the centerline. He was then hit by the vehicle, also going south.

The driver remained on the scene.
