MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) - A high-speed pursuit in Manitowoc County that reached speeds of over 100 mph ended after the erratic driver crashed into a Shell gas station sign and fled on foot.
Deputies with the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office say they were warned of an erratic driver on I-43 northbound near Fischer Creek Road on the evening of June 6. The SUV was reportedly seen slowing down, accelerating rapidly, and swerving between lanes.
When a deputy spotted the SUV near Manitowoc, a traffic stop was attempted, but the driver fled away at speeds between 90 and 110 mph.
After exiting I-43 at Highway V and Hillcrest Road, the SUV suddenly crashed into the support poles of the Shell gas station sign on Highway V.
