PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A KOIN 6 Weather Alert goes into effect Sunday and Monday as potentially dangerous heat takes aim at the Portland/Vancouver area later this weekend.

Afternoon highs will quickly warm into the mid and upper 80s on Saturday afternoon. Taking breaks in the air conditioning and shade while outside is going to be a must this weekend. Heat-related illnesses are elevated on Saturday through the start of next week.

Knowing the symptoms of heat-related illness or stroke should be revisited. Staying hydrated and limiting time outside during the peak of the heat will help reduce heat illness risks.
