A group of historic buildings in a “desolate” part of Leicester city centre can be converted into flats, planning officers have ruled. Some 62 new homes will be created in the former offices on the corner of Grey Friars and Friar Lane, near Leicester Cathedral .

The three properties sit on the site of what was once the Franciscan Friary, in the Greyfriars conservation area of the city centre. Two of the buildings are listed buildings – meaning they are of special architectural or historic interest and have greater protections under planning law. The third is a non-listed heritage asset.
