MUSKEGON -- On USS LST 393, one of only two surviving ships of its kind, history buffs, war reenactors and community members alike converged to learn about and honor D-Day.
For the first time in 16 years, the anniversary of D-Day fell on the weekend of the Muskegon Veterans Museum’s commemoration festivities.
Making the most of the serendipitous timing, the museum’s board planned a special showing of “Day of Days,” a dramatic retelling of D-Day from “Band of Brothers,” a miniseries based on an infantry regiment in World War II.
Some attendees, like museum board members Greg Cooke and John Stephenson, came to share their extensive knowledge of USS LST 393 and WWII, while others took part to honor the fallen.
