ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas — A controversial water project that would potentially impact an East Texas community is drawing the attention of several local leaders. The latest lawmaker to address the issue is Sen. Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) in a statement issued Friday evening.
The plan involves tapping into 21 wells in Redtown, located in Angelina County. Nichols joins several local leaders who are urging residents to speak out before the June 19th permit deadline.
In a letter to members of the Neches and Trinity Valleys Ground Water Conservation District, Nichols urged the district to deny applications for several high-capacity groundwater wells in Anderson County.
Nichols said the proposed wells would extract over 10 billion gallons of water a year from the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer,
