CHICAGO — Every day last season, after Jaquan Brisker was sidelined with a concussion, the Chicago Bears safety told his mother, Mijohni, he was OK.

Something clearly was amiss, however, as weeks of missed games turned into months and Brisker ultimately never returned to the field, missing the final 12 games after a vicious shot in an Oct. 6 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Late in the second quarter, he came down to tackle tight end Tommy Tremble after a short reception. With a running start, Tremble lowered his head and delivered a nasty blow to Brisker’s neck.

Brisker finished the game — doctors didn’t detect anything wrong in the moment — and he wasn’t diagnosed with a concussion until shortly before the Bears departed for London the following week. Tremble, for what it’s worth,
