PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Federal authorities arrested a second person seeking asylum in the United States this week immediately following his court hearing, attorneys representing the person said Friday.
The 24-year-old man, identified as Y-Z-L-H, lives in Newport and was arrested Thursday inside a Portland courthouse, according to the Innovation Law Lab.
His attorneys said the man fled Mexico because of death threats from a cartel.
His arrest is like another that happened on Monday. In that case, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a 24-year-old transgender woman who was seeking asylum immediately following her court hearing. Her attorneys said she fled Mexico because a different cartel was sexually assaulting her and threatening to kill her. She has been identified
