ALBERT LEA, Minn. — The Albert Lea City Council is set to vote on purchasing the former Broadway Theater at 338 South Broadway Avenue for $20,000 to facilitate its demolition.
The council will also consider allocating up to $10,000 to clean out the building. This decision follows a March 24 vote ordering the building's removal due to its hazardous condition. The city aims to redevelop the site and surrounding areas on the 300 block of Broadway Avenue.
“It is in the public’s interest to save staff time, reduce time going through the court process, and remove delays in establishing plans for the redevelopment district,” the proposed resolution states.
Additionally, the council will vote on agreements with two developers to build housing on city-owned lots. The city plans to provide the lo
