Maine (WABI/AP) - A federal judge has approved a settlement , clearing the way for schools to begin paying their athletes millions of dollars as soon as next month.

The $2.8 billion House v. NCAA settlement was approved on Friday.

The final approval comes years after litigation.

Before, students had to use outside parties to earn compensation, and now NCAA member schools will be able to directly pay athletes for their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL).

WABI spoke with Greg Glynn, Founder and CEO of Pliable , a NIL agency out of Augusta.

He says he was attending a NIL convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, when he heard the news. He currently represents more than 35 athletes across the country.
