MERCER, Pa. - A Mercer County man pleaded no contest to charges stemming from a double-fatal OVI crash in Pymatuning Township and is scheduled for sentencing in August.

Damion Gearhart, 25, of Transfer entered the plea on Wednesday to one count of DUI and two counts of homicide by vehicle. One of the homicide by vehicle counts carries a mandatory sentence of three to six years because it was committed while Gearhart was under the influence, according to Mercer County District Attorney Peter Acker.

Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Tedd Nesbit is scheduled to sentence Gearhart on Aug. 27.

The charges stem from a May 26, 2024, crash that killed 25-year-old David Helberg III and 29-year-old Brenton Tymchyshyn. Authorities say Gearhart was the driver in the crash.
