LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police are warning Nebraskans about a text scam in which a person pretends to be from the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles.
According to LPD, several people have received texts from a person claiming to be from the DMV. In the scam, a person receives the text which claims that the DMV is issuing a final notice, and that if certain fines aren’t paid, the person’s license will be revoked.
“Scammers prey on the fear their messages will evoke and hope that urgency gets you to click.” LPD stated on Facebook.
LPD recommends people who receive these texts should forward their text to the Federal Trade Commission at 7726, Report to the FBI Internet Crime Complain Center , and report that the text is junk and delete the text.
