Corbin Burnes will undergo Tommy John surgery, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo revealed Friday.

Burnes injured his right (throwing) elbow Sunday against the Washington Nationals and left during the fifth inning. He was placed on the injured list Tuesday with what was termed elbow inflammation.

Lovullo told reporters that Burnes' surgery will take place next week.

"It was a lot of information, a lot of fast-moving information, a lot of people weighed in on this, and Corbin felt like this was the best decision for him to continue pushing forward," Lovullo said, adding that there was no timetable for his recovery.

The Diamondbacks signed Burnes, 30, to a six-year, $210 million contract in free agency in December.
