Hackers who breached M&S’s online defences in a cyber attack which has crippled their online sales sent an extortion message to the high street retailer’s CEO, it has emerged.
A group of UK and US-based hackers known collectively as Scattered Spider are believed to be behind the breach which saw them stealing customer data.
Information taken from M&S’s 9.4 million active customers is believed to have included names, email addresses, postal addresses and dates of birth.
The cyber attack, which began over Easter, is so far estimated to have cost the firm £300m, with online services continuing to be disrupted until at least July.

This week, it was reported that the hackers sent an
