Craig Kimbrel was designated for assignment on Saturday, one day after making his first appearance in a Braves uniform in more than a decade.
Atlanta DFA’d the veteran reliever to make room on the active roster for left-hander Austin Cox, who was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett. The Braves signed Cox in May after he was released by the Royals.
The Braves’ decision to designate Kimbrel for assignment comes after the 37-year-old just made his return to the club. Atlanta summoned the longtime closer, the franchise's all-time saves leader with 186, from the Minors after blowing a six-run lead in the ninth inning against the D-backs on Thursday.
