RAVENEL — The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is investigating a late night collision where an Amtrak passenger train fatally hit a pedestrian on June 5.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. roughly one mile down the tracks from the train crossing at Highway 162 and Railroad Avenue.

The pedestrian hit by the train died at the scene, the released said. The victim's has not yet been identified.

The train did not derail, and no injuries were reported from passengers. The release said freight railroad operator CSX was advised about the collision and stopped all trains.
