A new state law recently took effect, requiring cities and counties to allow construction activities to begin by 5 a.m. on weekdays between May 1 and Oct. 15.

And possibly even earlier, as reported by Capitol Media Services. Gov. Katie Hobbs signed legislation that says companies can begin pouring concrete for new developments or a neighbor installing a new driveway an hour before construction starts.

On Saturdays, however, work has to wait until 7 a.m. As for Sundays, local governments still retain the power to set construction schedules.

Supporters say that the earlier hours promote worker safety, especially during the summer, and more efficient construction of houses, apartments and commercial buildings.
