SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Veterans Activity Committee hosted a golf tournament fundraiser at the Veterans Memorial Golf Course to raise money for a new monument.

"We have several monuments out there, but we don't have one in regards to the veterans who served in the Middle East," said Springfield Veterans Activity Committee Treasurer Joseph Hendrix. "We call that the War on Terror, which is actually still going on."

Nearly 100 golfers came together on Saturday in the rain to support service members and veterans from the Global War on Terror. As a veteran himself, Hendrix said these monuments on Veterans Way in downtown Springfield are important.

"It's our way of showing these veterans we appreciate what they've done," Hendrix said.
